He is not very good at taking pictures. I am ghostlier than usual. I wear green and hug dogs a lot, it would appear.

2009 was mostly terrible, but it was also fascinating — the kind of year you designate “memoir fodder”. My life was indisputably more interesting then. I feel a little boring now. However, 2010 was moderately interesting, I guess. The first time I lived completely alone, the first time I was in a long-distance relationship. I have a job I like and really good friends, and...

awkward small talk ahoy
While flashing a white light in my eye and hovering about two inches in front of my face, my eye doctor (who I last saw, like … five years ago) started asking if I was dating anyone, for how long, etc. I thought it was a set up to one of his bad jokes, so I almost said, “Why do you ask?”, which would have created, like, a vortex of awkwardness. You don’t just go around...

I also love the title of the book, incidentally
I just read This is Where I Leave You by Jonathan Tropper. I can’t say this without sounding like I have a vastly overinflated estimation of my writing skill, but his style/humor is similar to what I’ve written in my fiction pieces. Just, you know, immeasurably better. He does fucked up people well and has a really nice absurdist sensibility about him. Got it today, finished it today....

so Christian
me: 80% of those family Christmas newsletters are just bragging. “In 2010, we enjoyed our vacations to Peurta Vallarta and Barcelona. Bobby busied himself with competing in the all-state diving meet, and Clara maintained her summa cum laude grade average and attained native-level fluency in Mandarin Chinese.” And you’re just like, stop sending these. mom: No, I like reading...

“Charles De Gaulle, saviour of France’s honour in 1940 and founder of the Fifth Republic in 1958, was a man of contradictions. A conservative who brought the communists into his government and an imperialist who completed France’s decolonisation.” Hi history textbook. You can’t just have a random fragment as a sentence.
